Recent advances in quantum communication have moved beyond simple quantum key distribution protocols to more generalized protocols that enable the transmission and storage of entangled photons.  These advances allow, in principle, more complex quantum protocols to be used between two distant nodes and may one day enable quantum operations between separate quantum computers or quantum sensors.   This panel will discuss these advances and the additional developments and requirements necessary to build a complex quantum network by the following demonstrators at OFCnet: NuCrypt, Qunnect, and QuNETT/UMd.
