The Optical Infrastructures and Services panel presents advancements in optical communication technology by FABRIC, Open ROADM consortium, and NEC & Verizon. Further demonstrating the versatility of software-defined infrastructures, Ciena and FABRIC have partnered to develop a mobile, software-defined FABRIC node, the tfNode. This node, thoroughly equipped for demonstrations and presentations, serves as a tangible example of the potential of software-defined infrastructures, promoting the broader adoption of FABRIC technology. The Open ROADM consortium showcases a DWDM network testbed featuring five ROADM nodes and various network elements. Interoperability of devices from multiple OEMs, open architecture, and automated restoration are highlighted. NEC and Verizon demonstrate live data transmission and sensing using a hybrid cable, monitoring transmission performance in real-time and localizing physical disturbances. Different transmission rates for various fiber types are also demonstrated.
