Session Description
Network automation is a key to more efficient operation of optical networks and one of the most important trends in network modernization. Another current trend in network efficiency optimization is disaggregation at all OSI layers, including the important optical transport layer. Especially for disaggregated open ecosystems with the need for interoperation of optical line systems, network elements, and optical pluggable transceivers from different vendors, overarching automated orchestration is essential. The same is true for scalable optical slicing. The panel will focus on automation efforts by telco carriers and hyperscalers and overarching approaches to SDN control, network orchestration and automation by various transport system vendors. This includes handling optical user plane (UP) interoperation and applying harmonized communications via common northbound control plane (CP) interfaces and data models. Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms can support and improve the orchestration and automation processes.
