In 2023, OFC's high-speed optical network, OFCnet, will enable select demonstrations of networking products, solutions and architectures.
This live network will showcase emerging technologies including quantum networking, network element interoperability, SDN and programmability, and networking for big data/big science applications.
OFCnet saw first light in 2022 in partnership with CENIC and Lumen. CENIC, the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California, connects California to the world, advancing education and research statewide by providing the world-class computing network essential for innovation, collaboration and economic growth. Lumen is a multinational technology company enabling companies to capitalize on emerging applications and power the 4th Industrial Revolution. In 2022, Lumen laid the final piece to OFCnet and brought dark fiber into the San Diego Convention Center.
OFCnet will enable booth-to-booth fiber connectivity for on-site optical demonstrations while also extending CENIC to the OFC Exhibitor show floor. This connectivity will provide new opportunities for exhibitors who collaborate with affiliated academic institutions to highlight advancements and capabilities in a live real-time, fully operational network environment. Exhibitors participating in OFCNet may also have the opportunity to present their demonstrations to an audience in the Show Floor Theaters.
In its pilot year, OFCnet is looking for partners to help build the network and join CENIC and Lumen as founding partners by contributing equipment, services and demonstrations suited to OFCnet's objectives. OFCnet is looking for equipment vendors in fiber test sets, transport, switching and switching routing, as well as service providers, cloud providers and R&E companies.
