Sustainability at OFC

Our Commitment to a Greener Future

At OFC, we are dedicated to advancing innovation responsibly by integrating sustainability into every aspect of our conference and exhibition experience. In partnership with Freeman, our official general service contractor, and LACC, our venue partner, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting a more sustainable future for the global communications industry.

At OFC, sustainability is more than a goal—it’s part of how we innovate and connect. We recognize the importance of minimizing our environmental footprint while delivering an exceptional experience for our global community of exhibitors, attendees, and partners.

Through our partnership with Freeman, OFC’s official general service contractor, we are implementing practices that promote environmental responsibility, operational efficiency, and long-term impact reduction. Freeman’s One Freeman sustainability approach aligns closely with OFC’s values, helping us create meaningful progress across all aspects of event planning and production.

Our Sustainability Goals

Together with Freeman and LACC, OFC supports the following global commitments:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030
  • Achieve Zero Waste and Net Zero by 2050
  • Design and deliver events in alignment with ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management standards

These goals are supported through initiatives that reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainable material use throughout the event lifecycle.

Sustainable Practices at OFC

We are proud to incorporate sustainability into every stage of the conference and exhibition experience:

  • Reusable and Recyclable Materials – We prioritize sustainable materials such as Freeman’s recyclable Honeycomb and Paperboard substrates and offer digital alternatives to reduce printing waste.
  • Exhibit Rental and Reuse Programs – Modular booth systems, rental furniture, and reusable signage minimize single-use materials.
  • Efficient Operations – Energy-efficient lighting, motion-sensor systems, and low-emission equipment help reduce overall energy consumption.
  • Responsible Waste Management – Through recycling, upcycling, and donation programs, we divert as much waste as possible from landfills.
  • Intentional Ordering – Exhibitors and partners are encouraged to plan and order sustainably, focusing on materials and items with long-term or recyclable value.

A Collective Effort

OFC’s sustainability success depends on the collective efforts of our exhibitors, attendees, and vendors. By making intentional choices—from travel and shipping decisions to booth design and printed materials—we can reduce our overall environmental impact and inspire broader change within the industry.

Together, we are shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future for optical communications.

As sustainability and climate change have become a growing and popular topic at events and conferences, OFC is working with all its partners to promote the importance of a more sustainable future for all.
