As the mobile operators and system vendors are focused on the introduction of 6G in 2028-2030, the landscape is fundamentally changed by AI. The AI impact includes: 1) Gen AI applications are starting to drive significant growth in uplink capacity, resulting in the need for higher data-rate optics in 6G. 2) Large efforts are being made to improve the mobile networks' support of AI traffic and applications. 3) The use of AI is improving the operations and optimizations of mobile networks. 4) As an increasing part of the optics R&D spend is going to AI, a critical question is how the mobile optics needs can continue to be served. Organized by MOPA (Mobile Optical Pluggables Alliance), this session will cover all these aspects with industry-leading speakers from mobile operators, mobile systems vendors and optics vendors.
