AI traffic volume seems to come at a different scale than all other demands combined. Could the AI traffic volume and pattern transform the carrier optical transport network architecture from a shared meshy ROADM network with wave channel grooming at most sites to a hub-and-spoke optimized optical transport network with grooming capability only at AI data center hub sites? In other words, would the optical transport network be architected to optimize efficiency for AI traffic volume and pattern while other demands just happen to use it, or would the AI traffic be just another user of the shared, meshy ROADM network optimized for diverse demands?
