Panel: Can AI at the Edge transform Access Networks with Intelligent Connectivity?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a major driver of optical-network evolution. Access networks are expected not only to benefit from AI-enabled automation, optimization, and intelligence, but also to support emerging AI-driven services, as reflected in initiatives such as ITU-T ION-2030. This panel will discuss how AI at the edge may transform access networks through intelligent connectivity, new service capabilities, and closer integration between optical access, edge computing, and cloud infrastructures. Key topics include early/trending use-cases and applications of AI in access networks, e.g. AI-enabled OLT and ONT functions, relevant challenges, e.g. compute capabilities, data privacy, energy consumption, and ongoing standardization and industry initiatives, e.g. ION-2030. Operators, vendors, and researchers will share perspectives on the opportunities and practical barriers for AI-driven access-network evolution.
