NOS Panel: Realizing IP over DWDM: Benefits, Challenges and Customer Deployments

18 Mar 2026

Expo Theater I

Industry standards have been critical to the success of optical pluggable transceivers, guiding module design and operations across mechanical, high-speed electrical, line-side optical and management domains. Recent advances in coherent optical pluggable transceiver standards are driving a growing trend toward IP/optical integration, enabling the convergence of network layers and delivering total cost of ownership (TCO) benefits for operators. With multi-vendor interoperability of coherent optical transmission now established at 400G, attention has shifted to management interoperability - ensuring reliable operation in multi-vendor, multi-layer environments. This panel will provide an update on module interoperability with host platforms (e.g., CMIS), highlight recent achievements and ongoing challenges in management interoperability since the introduction of 400G coherent pluggables, and discuss how operators can effectively manage converged IP and optical layers across multi-vendor, multi-domain networks.
