Mixed-Signal Devices Inc. to Showcase Its Virtual Crystal Technology with a Groundbreaking 19fs of Jitter at OFC 2024

Mixed-Signal Devices Inc., a fabless semiconductor company specializing in high performance timing solutions, today announced its plans to showcase its family of Crystal oscillators (XOs) powered by Virtual Crystal technology at the Optical Networking and Communications Conference (OFC) 2024. These ultra-high performance XOs with a groundbreaking 19fs jitter (integrated from 12kHz to 20MHz) and a total stability of 5ppm are targeted to meet the needs of the most demanding applications in Fibre channel, 56G/112G/224G Serdes, 100G/200G/400G/800G OTN, and coherent optics.

“Explosive growth in bandwidth requirements is driving the optical communication systems to adopt high density modulation schemes like 256-QAM and 16-PAM, which operate on extremely tight jitter specifications. Our suite of timing solutions including XOs and Jitter attenuators offers superior performance coupled with unparalleled programmability enabling these next generation communication systems such as 1.6TB coherent optical and 800G OTN amongst others”, said Dr. Tommy Yu, CTO of Mixed-Signal Devices.

As jitter demands on these systems keeps getting more stringent, traditional solutions which only offer incremental improvements in performance are no longer adequate. To address this need, Mixed-Signal Devices has developed its Virtual Crystal – a technology that rivals the noise performance of a standalone SAW oscillator, the stability of a high-quality crystal, and the programmability of a fractional-N Phase locked Loop (PLL).

Fully programmable from 100MHz to 2GHz in sub-Hz resolution and manufactured in high-volume TSMC RF CMOS process, these XOs are available with extremely short lead times for even the most unique customer needs.

Mixed-Signal Devices will be demonstrating Virtual Crystal XOs at popular frequencies such as 312.5MHz, 491.52MHz, 983.04MHz, and 1966.08MHz, amongst others, in booth #5346 at the Optical Networking and Communications Conference 2024(OFC) in San Diego.

Availability:

Preproduction samples are available now in multiple industry standard 8-pin and 6-pin LGA packages (5x7 mm, 2.5 x 3.2 mm, 2.0 x 2.5 mm). Production quantities will be available in Dec 2024.
