Session Description:
The industry has made significant progress on the interfaces between routers, the coherent pluggable optics (DCOs), and the open optical line systems (OLS) that interconnect them – with a goal of achieving full interoperability between any DCO plugged into any router over any OLS.
The next challenge for wide-scale deployment is how to manage it all. Specifically: should the optical controller of the OLS manage the DCO optics, or should it be managed by the router controller, in coordination with the OLS controller via a hierarchical controller (HCO)?
In this panel, we will bring vendors and service providers together to understand the pros and cons of the different approaches and discuss how to standardize them.
