Session Description: 5G and Network Slicing introduces the questions 1) what are typical initial use cases based on slicing, 2) what are typical considerations driving slicing implementation, and finally, 3) how is a slice provisioned and assured.


Steve Plote, Optics Consulting Engineer (Retired), USA

Steve Plote, most recently consulting as a Director of Business Development for Fiber Smart; is an Optics Consulting Engineer.  He has worked with sales teams in the Americas as well as Channel Partners.  Focusing on Network designs for the delivery of real time, next generation services for Video transport, Carrier Ethernet, Consumer Content Distribution, and Cloud Computing.  He has had personal responsibility for the network engineering and support for the WEB2.0 and Content Service Providers in North America.  Mr. Plote has more than 30 years of experience in Data Center Interconnect, Telecommunications and LAN switching and transmission solutions.  Prior to Fiber Smart he was a Webscale Optics Consulting Engineer at Nokia.  Prior to that he was Solutions Business Development and CSP Systems Engineering at BTI Systems and prior to that was Solutions Sales Director at Tellabs.  He has had many professional memberships and committee involvements including NANOG PC, OFC, MEF, IEEE, OSA, IEC and IETF. 


Tim Broschuk, Nokia, Canada

Tim Broschuk works at Nokia as a Customer Solutions Architect.  He holds a B.Sc. in Engineering and a MBA in Marketing and Finance. Tim uses his experience in product management, marketing, operations, R&D and services to assist customers in developing their technical plans, business cases and migration programs. Tim and his family call Ottawa, Canada home and actively volunteer in the community. Tim has lectured at the University of Ottawa as a Professor, led local electoral district associations as President, and supported many charities including the Royal Ottawa Hospital.

Reza Rokui, Nokia, Canada

Reza is a Nokia Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) and is currently the director of
product line manager of carrier SDN controller platform. He is solution PLM responsible for role of
Carrier SDN controller on automation and assurance of 5G E2E network slicing/Transport slicing. He
was previously responsible for support of IP/MPLS products in areas of Services, Routing, Policy,
OAM and 4G EPC on Carrier SDN platform. He possesses over 20 years of experience in
telecommunication industry with technical track record and diverse background in IP/MPLS/SDN
product management, software engineering and research & development. He is also co-author and
co-editor of multiple standard documents at IETF and BBF. Reza holds a Ph.D. degree in Control and
Robotics from Concordia University in Canada and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from
Sharif University of Technology.
