Named in honor of the first woman chair of OFC, Suzanne R. Nagel, the lounge is an inclusive, networking space offering attendees the opportunity to discuss diversity topics, meet colleagues, explore new business opportunities and have professional headshots taken. Attendees can participate in small professional development sessions throughout the week focused on topics ranging from resume writing to navigating the industry.
Suzanne was the first woman president of the IEEE Photonics Society, board member of the Women in Engineering Program Advocates Network and first woman to be named an AT&T Bell Laboratories Fellow, the highest technical level of recognition at the organization. As a fellow of both The Optical Society and IEEE Photonics Society, Suzanne is a pioneer in the field that set out to use her visibility to help create mentoring opportunities for other women in science.
