Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) 2011

When/Where: March 6–10 (Exhibits open March 8-10) at the Los Angeles Convention Center
Details:

As the largest and most comprehensive international event for both the science and business of optical communications, this year's conference will host the entire scope of optical communications, providing technical programming, exhibits and other activities for all audiences from systems companies to service providers and carriers to equipment manufacturers.

With 10,000 attendees expected, along with more than 500 exhibiting companies (40 percent based outside the U.S.) and more than 750 technical presentations, OFC/NFOEC 2011 is the premier conference for all those with an interest in telecommunications, optical networks, datacom and more.

Featuring:

  • Leading companies in the Exhibit Hall—from network and test equipment vendors to sub-system and component manufacturers, plus software, fiber cable and specialty fiber manufacturers
  • Comprehensive technical program, featuring both the OFC and NFOEC programs, which includes hundreds of sessions, workshops, tutorials, short courses and paper presentations
Highlights:

Exposition floor highlights:

  • 500+ exhibitors, featuring the latest optical communications technologies. Participating companies include: Juniper Networks, JDSU, Cisco, Finisar, Ciena, Opnext, Huawei, Agilent, Alcatel-Lucent, Corning, Nokia Siemens, Avago, Infinera, and many others.

  • NEW THIS YEAR – Optical Business Forum – Tuesday, March 8
(Expo Theater II) – Optical technologies have become integral to the solutions needed to increase carriers' competitive advantage. Attend The Optical Business Forum to hear the latest advances in optical business services. Topics to be covered include: carrier Ethernet exchanges; data center connectivity; optical bandwidth services; transparent LAN services for building to building communications and wide area networking – including OC-n and wavelength services.

  • Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) Program – Tuesday, March 8 & Wednesday, March 9 (Expo Theater II) – The OIF will host two panels presentations – "400G vs. 1 Terabit: Market Needs and Technical Challenges" and "Next Generation High-Speed Networks: An OIF Update" featuring presenters from companies such as Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens, Infinera and others.

  • NEW THIS YEAR – Workshop on Optical Startups – 10 Years After the Bubble – Thursday, March 10 (Expo Theater II) – A decade after the bubble, fiber optics is still a very dynamic space with an amazing amount of new technology, much of which is coming from startups. This workshop aims to discuss the current state of venture capital and photonic startups from a number of perspectives, such as from an investor, from an acquirer, and from young, as well as mature, startups. The workshop will feature a number of presentations that focus on insights and key lessons learned and will conclude with a panel discussion that leaves ample room for questions.

  • NEW THIS YEAR – Green Touch Panel Session: When Will the Energy Crunch Hit Optical Networks? – Wednesday, March 9 (Expo Theater II) – Network traffic is growing; the optical capacity crunch is looming; energy costs and usage are surging. Hot spots in central offices are straining thermal management systems. Energy is already a focus for mobile base-stations and data centers: when will it become a dominant design constraint in optical systems? Or is it already? Panelists will weigh in on when the crunch will hit optical networks and share their vision of a world where innovation in optical networks will be driven by energy.

  • Fiber Optic Switch & Technology Center – Tuesday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 9 (Expo Theater III) – Discover how advanced fiber connectivity and automated switching can help in provisioning, testing and monitoring various network architectures such as ROADMs, Longhaul, FTTx, and for facilitating network/backbone fiber recovery & restoration, troubleshooting, and fault location.

  • FTTx Resource Center – Tuesday, March 8 – Thursday, March 10 (Demo Areas)   A combination demonstration and resource center, The Light Brigade's FTTx Center offers "one-stop shopping" for all things related to fiber-to-the-home. The FTTx Resource Center will feature a live FTTx system.

  • POF Market Opportunities Presentation – Thursday, March 10 (Expo Theater III) – The Plastic Optical Fiber Trade Organization (POFTO) is organizing a POF Symposium to review recent developments in POF markets, technology, and applications. In addition, POFTO is organizing a POF Day Program and POF Applications Center, which will be open throughout the show and will feature the latest POF industry products.

Special Programming on the Show Floor – Service Provider Summit and Market Watch

  • Market Watch – Tuesday, March 8 – Thursday, March 10
This three-day series of panel sessions engages the applications and business communities in the field of optical communications. This year Market Watch features a panel discussion on data centers, 100G, wireless, optical networking and more, with speakers from Cisco, Juniper Networks, Facebook, Huawei Symantec, Ciena, Broadcom and others.

  • Service Provider Summit – Wednesday, March 9
Join industry professionals for this dynamic program with topics and speakers of interest to CTOs, network architects, network designers and technologists within the service provider and carrier sector. The program includes panel discussions, a keynote presentation, exhibit time and networking time. Panel topics include "Evolution to a Higher Speed" and "What's Going on in Wireless" with presenters from Deutsche Telekom, Verizon, Time Warner Telecom and others.

    Keynote Presentation – Wednesday, March 9, 8:30–9:15 a.m.
