Sumitomo Electric to Showcase 25 Gb/s EML TOSA and PIN ROSA for 100G Base-LR4 at OFC 2011

Los Angeles, CA – March 7, 2011 — Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., a leading global provider of advanced optical solutions, announced today that it is expanding its optical device portfolio with the introduction of a 25G EML TOSA and 25G PIN ROSA for 100G Base-LR4 CFP modules.

These devices are IEEE 802.3ba compliant for 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE). The 100 GbE performance is based on transmitting and receiving four different wavelengths, each at 25 Gb/s. The new EML TOSA integrates an externally modulated DFB laser, optical isolator, photodiode for monitoring, thermistor and thermoelectric cooler, and is available in IEEE-compliant wavelengths. The TOSA includes a built-in modulator driver and offers output levels up to 4 dBm. The ROSA includes a high speed PIN photodiode and transimpedance amplifier, and realizes the wide dynamic range of -13 to +4 dBm. Network equipment manufacturers spent the past years working to develop 100 GbE offerings. The first generation of 100 GbE product is shipping today.
