Opnext Introduces Next Generation 40G DPSK Line-Side Module

300-pin module offers smaller footprint and lower power consumption designed for metro, regional and LH/ULH optical transmission

LOS ANGELES—March 8, 2011—Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXT), a global leader in high speed optical communications technology, will display its next generation 40G differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) MSA module during OFC/NFOEC, the industry’s largest optical communications conference (www.ofcnfoec.org), being held March 8, 2011 through March 10, 2011 in Los Angeles.

Opnext’s OTM-440S is a 300-pin module in a 3.5” x 4.5” small form factor mechanical package and is designed for metro, regional and long/ultra long haul optical transmission applications. The Opnext OTM-440S is a complement to the existing OTM-440 module, currently in volume production. It is compatible with 50GHz ROADM technologies and, combined with tunable dispersion compensators (TDCs), can be readily deployed in DWDM networks engineered for 10G non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation formats. With its smaller form factor and lower power consumption, the Opnext OTM-440S is ideal for applications requiring high port density.

“We have invested in the next generation DPSK module with a focus on reducing the form factor and power consumption for our customers,” said Mike Chan, President of Opnext’s subsystems business unit and EVP, Business Development & Marketing at Opnext. “As one of the worldwide leaders in shipments of 40G DPSK line cards and line-side 40G MSA modules, we continue to innovate and lead in 40G technology.”

According to LightCounting, an optical communications market research company, 40-Gbps DPSK modules have played a significant role in growing the DWDM market segment by more than 40 percent in 2010. Opnext's next-generation 40G DPSK technology, available in an industry standard 300-pin MSA module, will be available to customers starting in the second quarter of 2011.

Exhibiting at OFC/NFOEC 2011 Opnext will demonstrate its expansive lineup of 40G and 100G optical networking transmission technology at Booth #2115 during the OFC/NFOEC Conference and Exposition. For more information, visit our website at www.opnext.com.
