Opnext High Speed Technology Leadership Highlighted

Company to feature live demonstrations and participate in conference programs including 100G Ecosystems and the Future of High Speed Ethernet

LOS ANGELES—March 7, 2011—Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXT), a global leader in high speed optical communications technology, reinforces its technology leadership through its participation in the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) being held March 8-10 in Los Angeles, California.

The company will display multiple demonstrations on the exhibit floor, including:

• The first live technical feasibility demonstration of a CFP MSA (multi-source agreement) 100GBASE-ER4 client-side module running at 40km over single mode fiber at OTU4 data rate (111.8 Gbps).

• Opnext’s next generation 40Gbps DPSK line-side module. This 300-pin module in a 3.5” x 4.5” small form factor is ideal for high port density applications. Opnext is one of the worldwide leaders in shipments of DPSK line cards and line-side MSA modules.

• Extending the Company’s robust 40Gbps product family, Opnext will demonstrate its newest 40Gbps technology in a QSFP+ (quad small form factor pluggable plus) module. The QSFP+ 40GBASE-LR4 uses 4x10G CWDM integrated optics to transmit 40GbE traffic over a distance of 10km on single mode fiber.

• Opnext’s Tunable TOSA demonstration will show wavelength tuning of internally designed new tunable laser to deliver stable wavelength control. The tunable TOSA is of compact size for XFP module applications.

• Opnext display samples will include the company’s 100Gbps DWDM single wavelength PM-QPSK coherent module.

• Opnext will also be participating in the Ethernet Alliance Interoperability demo, Booth # 1253, showcasing a live demonstration of some of the latest products developed for use in next generation data centers.

“Opnext continues to invest in the 40Gbps and 100Gbps products and technologies that will enable our customers to provide cost effective networking solutions to their customers,” said Harry Bosco, Chairman and CEO of Opnext. “We believe that close partnerships with our customers are essential as we address the expanding bandwidth requirements and the technical challenges these requirements present in optical networking.”

Throughout the conference, Opnext representatives will be participating in the conference programming including:

• MarketWatch Ross Saunders, Opnext Subsystems Wednesday, March 9 from 1-3 p.m. at the Expo Theatre I Panel III: 100G Ecosystem: Enabling Technology and Economics

• Ethernet Alliance Panel Jon Anderson, Technical Marketing Wednesday, March 9, 1-2 p.m. at the Expo Theatre II Panel 1: The Future of Higher Speed Ethernet

• Poster Presentation: Demonstration of World-First 103Gbits Transmission over 40km Single Mode Fiber by 1310 nm LAN-WDM Optical Transceiver for 100GbE Wednesday, March 9 from 10 - 12 noon, Exhibit Halls H & J (OPXT-G)
