Fujitsu Solution Receives 2015 Lightwave Innovation Award Elite Score

C-RAN + Dynamic Core Evolution System Improves Mobile Network Flexibility, Availability and Scalability

RICHARDSON, Texas – March 23, 2015 – Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. announced that the company’s Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) + Dynamic Core Evolution system received an elite score in the Optical Transport Platforms category of the 2015 Lightwave Innovation Awards. Judged by a panel of industry executives and analysts, the Fujitsu solution was deemed a “superb product that sets new standard for performance and provides groundbreaking and new technical milestones.”

The Fujitsu C-RAN + Dynamic Core Evolution system is a converged, end-to-end network solution that enables wireless service providers to build comprehensive mobile networks and enables wireline service providers to offer enhanced mobile xhaul transport to wireless service providers. The “pole to point of presence (POP)” service extends from remote radio heads (RRHs) at small cells, through centralized baseband unit (BBU) hubs, complementing macro cells, across mobile switching centers (MSCs) to peering points at the POP. The Fujitsu solution converges the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) transport of a C-RAN architected service and a dynamic ROADM core to deliver 4G LTE service from small and macro cell sites.

The converged network solution offers mobile network operators flexible last mile access for CPRI service delivery, big data performance capacity, carrier-grade level (five-nines) availability and remote management visibility, while lowering the overall network operating cost.

“As we do each year, we assembled a stellar panel of accomplished third-party industry professionals to evaluate a wide array of promising optical networking innovations,” said Tim Hermes, Publisher of Lightwave. “Fujitsu Network Communications is certainly no stranger to our judges, who were quite impressed with the company’s entry. The Fujitsu C-RAN + Dynamic Core Evolution system looks to be an excellent comprehensive transport solution. According to the panel, its technical features, performance and remote transport visibility from pole to POP give it unique strengths and great value. We congratulate Fujitsu on their notable score.”

“C-RAN + Dynamic Core Evolution is an all-in-one system for mobile network operators,” said Steve Pelosi, Vice President and Head of Optical Products, Fujitsu Network Communications. “The integrated, centrally managed system streamlines the addition of wireless network capacity while maintaining the performance and reliability operators require. On behalf of the team at Fujitsu I thank the judges and Lightwave for this honor.”

The Fujitsu C-RAN + Dynamic Core Evolution system is powered by:

  • Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet Optical Transport Platform with integrated 2.4 Tbps OTN, 1.2 Tbps packet and 960 Gbps TDM switches along with dynamic ROADM
  • Fujitsu FLASHWAVE CDS Micro Packet Optical Transport Platform with OTN or packet transport technology for aggregation edge grooming
  • Fujitsu CPRI transport product line for wireline and wireless C-RAN front haul connectivity:
    • Fujitsu CPRI smart products enable low-latency CPRI transport with remote visibility and resilient network operation over linear or ring topology
    • Fujitsu GX4000 E-Band Radio with patented impulse radio technology provides CPRI and Ethernet service delivery at high data rates over a wireless link
  • Fujitsu NETSMART 1500 Management System with simplified point-and-click control enables network wide provisioning, maintenance and surveillance from a centralized location
