Fujitsu Introduces Low-cost, Access-Agnostic Solution for Service Delivery

Virtual Access Network solution replaces costly hardware and cuts long provisioning times

RICHARDSON, Texas – Fujitsu Network Communications will introduce its Virtual Access Network (VAN) solution at the OFC Conference this week. The solution lifts the cost and time barriers to small-to-medium business (SMB) service deployment by eliminating purpose-built routing devices and manual provisioning, while utilizing any access technology to deliver services.

Today, SD-WAN and access services can be cost-prohibitive to deliver at a price SMB customers can afford, in turn creating a large underserved market. With the Fujitsu VAN solution, SMB services can now be more affordable: Operators no longer need to deploy expensive Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) routing devices that require manual provisioning on site. Furthermore, they can eliminate truck rolls, which can be expensive when customers are located in rural areas. VAN also offers a single solution that can be used to deliver virtualized products across multiple access technologies.

The VAN solution minimizes service delivery time and costs in part by taking advantage of centralized compute resources. By virtualizing and centralizing network functions, the solution increases performance and makes services easier to manage.

The VAN solution consists of a Services Gateway Unit – a low-cost “white box” that supports services across any access medium; a Plan & Provision tool for zero-touch plug and play provisioning; and a Virtual Private Service VNF that replaces traditional routers. In combination, these components help operators:
  • Deploy new services without manual provisioning
  • Deliver seamless access regardless of underlying technology (fiber, copper, HFC, Wi-Fi, LTE, etc.)
  • Reduce the cost of service delivery
  • Offer high-value, competitively priced services to customers
“VAN delivers both short and long-term operator value,” said Paul Havala, vice president of solutions at Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. “It increases the accessible market by enabling low-cost expansion to new service areas and customer populations. It also offers long-term opportunity with the potential for innovative future service offerings.”
