Gowanda Expands Broadband Conical Offerings for High Frequency Applications

GOWANDA, NY) - Gowanda Electronics, a designer and manufacturer of precision electronic components for RF and power applications around the world, announces a new broadband conical inductor series. The new high-current C550FL thru-hole series provides current ratings to 5 A DC. Gowanda will feature these wirewound, flying lead broadband conicals – as well as the company’s other flying lead and surface mount conicals – at OFC 2016 in Anaheim, California. Stop by booth #1433 for more information.

The C550FL series provides predictable frequency response and repeatable performance from 40 MHz to 40 GHz, similar to Gowanda’s other broadband conicals. What differentiates the C550FL design is its ability to handle currents up to 5 A.  This makes it particularly well-suited for high-current broadband applications.

Technical parameters for the series include inductance from 1.2 to 7.5 µH, DCR ohms from 0.01 to 0.13, and current rating from 1.4 to 5 A DC. The C550FL series also meets a total mass loss (TML) requirement of 1.0% maximum when tested in accordance with the ASTM E-595 outgassing test. Wires are tinned copper or gold plated copper and wire sizes are 20 or 28 AWG, depending on part number. Operating temperature is -55°C to +125°C and the series is RoHS-compliant. Technical details are provided in the C550FL datasheet. Please contact factory for application-specific requirements.

With the addition of the C550FL series, Gowanda now offers four physical size configurations of flying lead (thru-hole) conicals and two physical sizes of SMT (surface mount) conicals. The C100SM surface mount series offers designers a right or left mounting configuration to help address EMI concerns.  Surface mount designs offer a rugged two-piece construction for repeatability.

Key performance parameters for Gowanda’s conical product line include inductance from 0.20 to 8.0 µH, DCR ohms from 0.01 to 6.4 and current rating DC from 0.089 to 5 A. Specific technical parameters, S-parameter graphs (forward transmission and reflection coefficients) and testing data are provided in the company’s  Broadband Conical Inductors Brochure.

Gowanda’s conical inductors are specifically designed for high frequency applications where ultra-low insertion loss is a design requirement. The unique construction utilized in these broadband inductors helps to limit the effects caused by stray capacitance. For customer needs that go beyond off-the-shelf components, Gowanda maintains a leadership role in custom build-to-print conical solutions to address specific customer requirements.
