Optical Fiber has many uses beyond passing large amounts of data. Exploration continues to identify the potential of fiber to be incorporated into security, system controls and other sensing use cases. The first part of the panel session will be an introduction to fiber sensing. We will then present OFCNet’s collaboration with our partners on our fiber sensing setup in the bay area and report on initial findings from our deployed DAS unit. We will conclude the session with a presentation on how optical networking hardware can be used for fiber sensing services.
