CableLabs: Empowering Access Networks with Coherent Optics

Wednesday, 27 March, 11:30 – 12:30

Theater II

Session Description:

With coherent optics having established dominance in a range of network segments, including transoceanic, terrestrial long haul, regional, and metro, focus now shifts to pushing further into edge and access environments. However, directly utilizing coherent optics optimized for core/metro poses new challenges around cost, power, footprint, and architecture. This panel explores tailored techniques to harness the power of coherent for next-generation access capacity, flexibility, and reach.

Experts from operators, system vendors, and standards groups trailblazing coherent adoption in access networks will discuss the opportunities and obstacles from multiple perspectives. Topics span from purpose-built coherent pluggables for access to newly proposed coherent PON architectures. Collectively, viewpoints will coalesce on how to adapt coherent advantages for the access transformation underway across wireline and wireless convergence.
