Scaling Optical Networks: From Chip-to-Chip to Submarine Transmission

Wednesday, 11 March, 11:30 - 13:00
Theater II
Session organized by ON2020

Session Description
ON2020 is developing an industry-wide vision of optical networking and its associated scalability issues, focusing on a pre-standardization time frame of 5-10 years. Its six dedicated working groups cover topics such as long-term traffic evolution in optical networks, optics integration onto switch engines and onto coherent engines, physical-layer transmission systems and related transport network protocols, and network autonomy and control. The panel session at OFC 2020 will give a read-out of those working groups and stimulate strategic discussions on highly industry-relevant forward-looking topics, bridging the gap between the more research-oriented talks typically presented at the technical conference and the more near-term and standardization-oriented talks typical of the showfloor program.
