Session Description

As optical connectivity migrates from 100Gbps NRZ to 200Gbps and 400Gbps PAM-4 based solutions, optical module users are faced with increased power consumption, latency and cost challenges. To addresses these challenges, multi-disciplinary industry leaders formed OpenEye MSA which expands optical module technology solutions to include analog CDR and analog PLL to provide non-DSP-based alternative. This panel will discuss the trade-offs and interoperability between the two approaches, and benefits of this new solution for low cost and low power high speed interconnect for data centers and campus networks. Subjects covered will include available analog semiconductor technologies, test solutions, emerging OpenEye compliant single mode and multimode optical modules and OpenEye MSA roadmap.

Biographies

Benny Koren, VP of Architecture, Mellanox, USA

Benny Koren , Mellanox VP for architecture, re-joined Mellanox in 2010 and is responsible for Mellanox's switches and Physical layer products. Mr. Koren graduated Cum Laude with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.

 

 

 

Greg LeCheminant, Measurement Applications Specialist, Digital Communications Analysis, Keysight Technologies, USA 

Greg Le Cheminant is a Measurement Applications Specialist and Strategic Planner for digital communications analysis products in the Internet Infrastructure Solutions Group.  He is responsible for development of new measurement applications and products for the group’s optical communications test products.  He represents Keysight on several industry standards committees.

Greg's experience at Keysight/Agilent/Hewlett-Packard began in 1985 with five years in manufacturing engineering, and the remainder in various technical marketing positions. He is a contributing author to four textbooks on high-speed digital communications and has written numerous technical articles on test related topics.  Greg earned BSEET and MSEE degrees from Brigham Young University.

 

Jeffery Maki, Distinguished Engineer II, Juniper Networks, USA

Dr. Jeffery Maki works on cloud optics. He is a member of the board of directors of the Ethernet Alliance and an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet voter. For OIF, he is PLUG chair and technical voter for Juniper Networks. He is co-chair of the 100G Lambda MSA and a founding member of the QSFP-DD800, QSFP-DD, SFP-DD and Open-Eye MSAs. For COBO, he is a member of the board of directors, VP and Data Center Networking working group chair. He is an OSA and IEEE member. He has a Ph.D. in Optics from The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, Rochester, New York.


Marek Tlalka, Senior Director of Marketing, High Performance Analog, MACOM, USA 

Marek Tlalka is the Senior Director of Marketing for High Performance Analog at MACOM. Prior to joining MACOM, Marek worked at Mindspeed Technologies, Luxtera, Conexant, Applied Digital Access and GTE Communications Systems. Marek has over 30 years of experience in the telecommunications field covering areas such as Engineering, Product Management, Marketing and Sales. Marek received his BSEE from Illinois Institute of Technology and his MBA from San Diego State University.

 


Tim Vang, Vice President, Marketing and Applications, Semtech Corporation, USA

Timothy Vang, Ph.D. has over 25 years of experience in the optical communications field.  He joined Gennum (now Semtech) in 2007 and currently is Vice President of Marketing and Applications for optical communication products.  Before joining Semtech he worked for Archcom Technology, VSK Photonics, TRW, Jet Propulsion Labs and Bell Laboratories. He has over 30 published publications and 10 patents.

 



Michael XinVice President, Sales and Marketing, Cambridge Industries USA Inc. (CIG), USA

Michael Xin is a VP of Sales and Marketing at CIG USA, responsible for North America Market for CIG’s Photonics Business Unit. Prior to CIG, Michael was a Director of Corporate Business Development at Oclaro, Inc. responsible for corporate strategy and M&A. He came to Oclaro through the Opnext acquisition in 2012.
Michael holds a PhD and a M. Phil in applied physics from Center for Telecommunications Research at Columbia University, MS in space physics from University of Alaska, Fairbanks and BS in applied physics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.
