Software defined wide-area networks are finally becoming real. Equipment has the capabilities, controllers exist and now orchestrators work. However, deployments have progressed slowly because investment in full-blown SDN solutions is high and service providers (SPs) struggle to find near term return on investment (ROI) for the technology. Some SPs are stuck in analysis/paralysis, while others are turning to a more evolutionary approach, taking small steps towards full automation, with a lower investment and more near-term ROI. Understanding different evolutionary approaches toward full automation will help more SPs to get started and proliferate and expedite the deployment of the technology. This panel will provide different viewpoints on the ROI topic and foster a discussion around how to best address the issue.
