Welcome to OFC!

Each morning of the conference, we'll be sending The Daily Wrap — highlighting things to note for the day ahead and recaps from the day before.

Note: To make the jet lag even more challenging, Daylight Saving Time took effect earlier this morning. Make sure your preferred timepiece has been set one hour ahead.

The OFC Technical Digest

Three Ways to Access Papers

The USB Slap Band

The Technical Digest is available on a USB drive, which is housed in a “slap band”, a wearable wrist band. Full Conference registrants will find the slap band in their attendee conference bag.

OFC App

Full Conference registrants can navigate directly to the technical papers right from the OFC App. Locate the session or talk in "Event Schedule" and click on the "Download PDF" link that appears in the description.

Note: To access the technical papers, you will need to log in with the email address and password used when registering for OFC.

Online Access

The OFC Technical Digest is available now from OSA Publishing's Digital Library. Postdeadline Papers will be available starting Tuesday, 13 March.

Tutorial presentations and three-page summaries of invited and contributed papers can be downloaded by individual sessions or by daily .zip files. .zip files are available for 60 days after the conference ends.

Dispatches from the OFC Blog

A Year of Innovations in 3 Days at OFC

By Casimer deCusatis

Did you know that someday soon, a “fiberless” technology backed by industry heavyweights such as LinkedIn and HP (Open 19 Foundation) might enable up to 400 GB of raw bandwidth to the cloud without the need to run fibers to each individual server? Or that the new 8K ultra-high definition televisions (UHDTV) are using plastic optical fiber? How about that new 16 nm technology for silicon CMOS devices at 600 GB/s; could it be related to machine learning networks, or perhaps the ON2020 roadmaps? [more]

It's Always Sunny in San Diego!

By James Kisner, Equity Division Loop Capital Markets, USA

It’s that time of year again! The entire optical communications industry will converge upon one location at the 2018 Optical Fiber Communication (OFC) conference. OFC is returning next week to San Diego, California for the first time since 2010. We thought it would be interesting to compare a few facts about our world at that time (March 2010) compared to today. [more]
