OFC Attendees in the Convention Center

Welcome to OFC

Each morning of the conference, we'll be sending The Daily Wrap — spotlighting things to note for the day ahead and highlights from the day before. Today, we focus on several ways to access Digest Papers from the technical conference.

The OFC Technical Digest:
Three Options to Access OFC Papers

The USB Slap Band
The Technical Digest will be available on a USB drive, which is housed in a “slap band”, a wearable wrist band. Full Conference registrants will find the slap band in their print version of the OFC Conference Program or in their attendee conference bag.

OFC App
Full Conference registrants can navigate directly to the technical papers right from the OFC App. Locate the session or talk in "Event Schedule" and click on the "Download PDF" link that appears in the description.

Note: To access the technical papers, you will need to log in with the email address and password used to register for OFC registration.

Online Access
The OFC Technical Digest is available now from OSA Publishing's Digital Library. Postdeadline Papers will be available starting Tuesday, 21 March.

Tutorial presentations and three-page summaries of invited and contributed papers can be downloaded by individual sessions or by daily .zip files. .zip files are available for 60 days after the conference ends.

A Breath of Fresh Air — ICPs Driving Down 100G Costs

By Jim Theodoras, VP Global Business Development, ADVA Optical Networking

As OFC rapidly approaches, new technologies will be at the forefront of discussions. Much to the chagrin of optical fanbois everywhere and delight of those other guys on the wrong side of communication history, optical appears to be following in the footsteps of wireless in adding more and more complex modulation schemes to eke out more and more from the same amount of stuff — all the while, pretending to ignore the inevitable Shannon limit.

Yes, wireless is to optical as Pepsi is to Coca-Cola or, dare I say, Dr. Moriarty to Sherlock Holmes. Scientists and engineers can be an amusing lot (myself included), arguing in hallways, on panels, and at session audience microphones about the pros and cons of this versus that technology. [more]

OFC Research News:
Leading Companies to Showcase the Technologies and Solutions Shaping Today’s Optical Communications Ecosystem

OFC offers a dynamic conference program exploring the latest advancements in optical communications and high-speed data center links through the conference’s 1,150 technical and business presentations.

Optical communications is a large and dynamic market which impacts organizations across the globe regardless of industry. According to market research firm LightCounting, capital expenditures among network operators reached nearly $180 billion in 2016. Data center expansion, expected to be a key topic at OFC, is a rapidly growing segment, with Google spending $10 billion alone, and over $3 billion in transceiver sales for data centers across all customers, according to Discerning Analytics. [more]
