Sumitomo Electric Showcases the World’s First Public Demonstration of 100G EDR Active Optical Cable at OFC 2014

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., a leading global provider in advanced optical solutions, today demonstrated advanced VCSEL-based products for next-generation enterprise data centers including the industry’s first 100G EDR active optical cable (AOC). Demonstration of the 100G EDR AOC will continue throughout OFC 2014 in Sumitomo Electric’s booth #3845 from March 11 to 13, 2014.
 
Extremely fast bandwidth growth and demand for rich media put tremendous pressure on storage and computing resources. Available with the QSFP+ form factor, Sumitomo Electric AOCs are high-performance active optical cables with a maximum aggregate bandwidth of 100 Gb/s.  
 
Providing benefits over copper cables designed for InfiniBand QSFP+ SDR/DDR/QDR/FDR/EDR and 40/100 Gb/s Ethernet applications, AOC supports distances up to 100 meters while reducing the weight, density, and power consumption over traditional copper alternatives. Sumitomo Electric’s next generation AOC technology will have an important impact on the industry
