Real World Experience in Flexible Coherent System Deployments

Monday, March 21, 2016
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Event type: Panel

Room number: Room 304B

Organizer:

Lynn E. Nelson, AT&T Labs, USA and Qunbi Zhuge, Ciena Canada, Canada

Description:

Flexible coherent systems with programmable coherent transceivers and flexgrid CD or CDC ROADMs are being deployed currently.  Comprising service providers, system vendors, and component/ subsystem suppliers, this panel will share views on use cases, perceived benefits, and initial deployment experience.  In particular, the following questions will be addressed:  What flexibilities could currently deployed systems deliver, versus what flexibilities are actually being utilized?  What gains (e.g. capacity improvement, cost reductions, deployment efficiencies and operational simplifications) are being achieved with these initial deployments?  What is the path to upgrade these systems to take advantage of the full flexibility, and what are the challenges and perceived ultimate gain?  Based on the experience of the initial deployments, what are the directions for future development of flexible systems and components?

Speakers:
