OFC/NFOEC Announces Name Change to OFC

WASHINGTON, June 24, 2013–The organizers of the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC), the largest and most comprehensive international event for both the science and business of optical networking and communications, today announced an official name change for the event. Effective immediately, the conference and exhibition will be known as OFC.  In 2004, NFOEC merged with OFC and the name changed to OFC/NFOEC; after a decade of successfully integrating the NFOEC content, experts, attendees and constituency into the full program, the name is now simplified to OFC.

“Since its inception, OFC has evolved its programming to reflect the most current research and market trends in optical networking and communications—including incorporating the applications-oriented content of NFOEC,” said Elizabeth Rogan, CEO of the Optical Society (OSA), which co-sponsors OFC with the IEEE Photonics Society and the IEEE Communications Society. “Now that NFOEC is so effectively assimilated into the umbrella OFC program, OFC is simplifying its name to represent the totality of the content from both conferences.  OFC will continue to be the largest and most important event for this field.”

OFC 2014 takes place March 9-13 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Calif. It will feature more than 550 exhibitors and hundreds of presentations covering topics such as cloud and data center networking, bandwidth exhaust, 100G/400G network design and optimization, software-defined networks, silicon photonics, and many others. About OFC

For more than 35 years, the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) has been the premier destination for converging breakthrough research and innovation in telecommunications, optical networking, fiber optics and, recently, datacom and computing. Consistently ranked in the top 200 tradeshows in the United States, and named one of the Fastest Growing Trade Shows in 2012 by TSNN, the conference unites service providers, systems companies, enterprise customers, IT businesses, and component manufacturers, with researchers, engineers, and development teams from around the world. OFC includes dynamic business programming, an exposition of more than 550 companies, and cutting-edge peer-reviewed research that, combined, showcase the trends and pulse of the entire optical networking and communications industry. OFC is managed by the Optical Society (OSA) and co-sponsored by OSA, the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE/ComSoc), and the IEEE Photonics Society.  OFC 2014 takes place March 9-13 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Calif., USA.
