Anritsu, Teledyne LeCroy to Demonstrate Innovative Test Solution for PAM4 Designs at OFC 2014

MP1800A BERT to be Configured with LabMaster 10 Zi Real-time Oscilloscope to Create Solution that Meets Needs of Signal Integrity Engineers

Richardson, TX – March 10, 2014 Anritsu Company (booth #1123) and Teledyne LeCroy (booth #3371) announce that the Anritsu MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer (SQA) BERT and Teledyne LeCroy LabMaster 10 Zi real-time oscilloscope will be part of PAM4 demonstrations during OFC 2014, March 11-13, in San Francisco, CA. The on-going demonstration will be held in the Teledyne LeCroy booth and will highlight how the BERT-oscilloscope configuration creates a highly accurate test solution for verifying high-speed backplanes and 400 GbE designs.

In the demonstration, the MP1800A will be configured with a PAM4 converter to support generation of PAM4 signals with assured excellent signal-to-noise ratio (S/N). The generated signals will be input into the LabMaster 10 Zi, which offers the widest bandwidth available in a real-time oscilloscope, to showcase the analysis capability offered by the combined solution.

“Increasing transmission capacities of servers and core networks to meet ever-growing consumer demand is an issue for the entire communications industry. Pulse-Amplitude Modulation (PAM) is a possible solution technology, as it can increase data rates while suppressing symbol rate. Signal integrity engineers are in need of test solutions that can accurately measure PAM4 designs. Our OFC demonstration with Teledyne LeCroy will appeal to these engineers, as it delivers the speed, accuracy, and analysis tools necessary to verify designs,” said Hiroshi Goto, Business Development Manager, Anritsu Company.

The MP1800A consists of an internal pulse pattern generator (PPG) and high-input-sensitivity error detector (ED) module, each of which can be configured with one, two, or four channels to support multi-channel synchronization of up to eight channels at 32 Gbit/s. It generates a high-quality NRZ waveform that can be input into the PAM4 converter to generate best-in-class PAM signals for evaluation of multiple synchronized channels common in high-speed designs.

Teledyne LeCroy’s LabMaster 10 Zi modular oscilloscopes break bandwidth, sample rate, and channel count barriers to provide more bandwidth density. The modular design provides an upgrade path in bandwidth and channel count, with one acquisition module providing four channels at 36 GHz or two channels at 65 GHz, with capability for up to 20 acquisition modules, and sample rates up to 160 GS/s.
