Anritsu Teams with Kotura to Demonstrate 25-28 Gb/s Optical Links Designed to Support 100 Gb/s Network Applications at OFC

LOS ANGELES, Mar. 6 - Anritsu Company (OFC booth #1710) announces its MP1800A BERT Signal Quality Analyzer (SQA) will be part of a live demonstration of 25-28 Gb/s optical links designed to support 100 Gb/s networking applications being conducted by Kotura, Inc. (#1951) during OFC 2012.

In the demonstration, the MP1800A will help verify the performance of the low-power 100 gigabits per second optical engine that is designed for integration into Next Generation Networks (NGNs). The MP1800A features an expandable and flexible configuration with wideband frequency coverage from 100 Mbps to 56 Gbps. It was selected for the demonstration, in part, because it features a multiple synchronized 28G BERT with a built-in Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) that supports output of high-quality, low intrinsic jitter signals, as well as a built-in Error Detector (ED) with high input sensitivity. The low intrinsic jitter and fast Tr/Tf capability allow the MP1800A to conduct highly accurate signal integrity analysis, including bathtub and Q measurements.

Additionally, the BERT SQA’s 3.5Vp-p high output voltage allows it to drive optical components. Kotura’s silicon optical engine that will part of the demonstration supports the interconnect fabric for next-generation data centers and high performance computers (HPC). Kotura has integrated important functionalities into a single pair of silicon chips, eliminating the need for hundreds of piece parts and dozens of assembly steps. The Kotura optical engine is so small that a 100 Gbps transceiver will easily fit inside a QSFP package, greatly increasing the panel density of 100 Gbps transceivers.

“Anritsu is committed to developing test solutions that will advance the technologies that will be incorporated into NGNs. Part of that commitment is to work with companies such as Kotura, who is developing the optical engines that will help the rollout of 100 Gb/s networks,” said Wade Hulon, General Manager and Vice President, Anritsu Company.

“Our demonstration with Anritsu will showcase the overall performance of our new optical engines, which will provide customers with an inexpensive, small form factor that reduces power consumption and provides a high-level of integration,” said Mehdi Asghari, CTO of Kotura. “As the demonstration will show, our 100 Gbps optical engine is exactly what the HPC, traditional data center, and switch/routing infrastructure seeks to support NGNs.”
