Centera 100G Specialty Transceivers: Reshape The Upgrade Economy of 100G Data Centers

Painless “One-to-One” Swap Upgrade Package for 40Gbps Data Center Operators Moving Towards 100Gbps

Centera Photonics Inc., a cutting-edge solution provider for data center interconnect, will demonstrate its 100Gbps Specialty Transceiver technology based on its Silicon MEMS Optical Engines in OFC 2017. The 100Gbps Specialty Transceiver Family will make 100Gbps upgrade to much easier for current 40Gbps data center operators by direct replacement of 40Gbps to 100Gbps transceivers.

The 100G Specialty Short Reach products include 100G-xSR4 and 100G-eSR4 upgrade package as one-to-one direct replacement for 40Gbps to 100Gbps datacenter transceivers. This package protects the initial OM3 investment and saves the additional expense of OM4 fiber deployment.

The xSR4 extends OM3 linkage from 70 meters to 150 meters which easily covers the 30 meters shortage of standard 100G-SR4 specification. Moreover, for OM4 fibers, xSR4 doubles standard SR4 from 100 meters to 200 meters.

Centera’s eSR4 extends OM3 linkage to 300 meters which exactly covers the original 40G-eSR4’s transmitting distance. For OM4 linkage, eSR4 can transmit 400 meters, which is the longest reach for multiple channels MMF 100G can reach.

The transceiver module’s outstanding performance is from its special optical engine. Centera, as an optical-electronic design house, designs its optical engine on semiconductor MEMS technology. Semiconductor has been proven to be the most reliable and high accuracy process technologies. While the Optical Communication industry is facing challenges of the high density and bandwidth, Centera builds an optical engine common platform that can be carried over for next generation opto-comm.   • Very small form factor – 1/3 size of the conventional approach
  • Extremely short optical path – <150um, only 25% of the conventional
  • Good assembly tolerance – quick assembly with high yield

All of Centera’s 100Gbps transceivers and AOC products are made from our proprietary semiconductor MEMS technology. The silicon optical engine is very small and provides high coupling efficiency and good thermal management capability. It turns out that our product performance is much better than conventional assembly. For example, the transmitting reaches are longer than definitions of IEEE and MSAs. Here we are about to show you how good they are.
