Expo Theater III, Exhibit Hall A

Session Description

Drew Perkins has been one of the most prolific, serial Entrepreneurs of our time, having been involved as a key, early "employee" or Founder in seven companies.  His last 4 have had successful outcomes as defined by either going public in an IPO or being purchased or merged with another company in a stock and cash buy out scenario.  He currently has two pending.  Drew will share some of his experiences in a Q&A format and what it takes to get ideas funded through Angel investors and Venture Capital and how to keep the idea and company moving forward to an eventual successful outcome for the investors and employees.

Drew Perkins, Serial Entrepreneur

Drew Perkins has been at the forefront of Internet technology innovation for more than three decades. Early in his career, Drew invented the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), the dominant access technology of the early Internet. Most recently, Drew co-founded and spent nearly three years as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gainspeed, Inc., a company that is redefining the way cable networks are built. Prior to Gainspeed, Drew co-founded and served as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Infinera Corporation, a vertically integrated optical networking company that developed the world’s first and most advanced large-scale photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Before Infinera, Drew co-founded and served as CTO of Lightera Networks, a developer of optical switching systems for telecom networks that was acquired by Ciena Corporation, and OnFiber Communications, a metropolitan telecommunications service provider acquired by Qwest Communications. Drew has also held various roles in industry standards bodies and research organizations including the IETF, IEEE, OIF, ATM Forum and Internet2.   Before Lightera, Drew was Principal Architect at ATM vendor FORE Systems (acquired by Marconi) and cofounded an NFS acceleration software called InterStream.
