Satisfying Bandwidth Demands

Vendors used OFC this week to announce and demonstrate their latest solutions designed to satisfy the next wave of increased bandwidth demands. With the industry rapidly moving beyond the capabilities of 10G and into main stream deployment of 100G services, it is clear that switching capacities and port densities on existing packet optical transport platforms will be stressed.

The Plastic Optical Fiber Trade Organization (POFTO) presents the POF Symposium, covering recent developments in POF technology, applications, technical standards, industry progress and new markets. Speakers from around the world will review opportunities for POF in areas such as Gigabit POF, 4K/8K ultra high definition television (UHDTV), home networking, IPTV, consumer devices, aerospace and automobile applications, POF sources and sensors; and high-temperature POF, among others.
